Chocolate Packaging

Daniel le Chocolat Belge

Daniel le Chocolat Belge is a Vancouver chocolate institution known for making pure, preservative-free Belgian chocolate with no artificial colourings or flavours. The company’s Canada-wide reputation for delivering exceptionally good products has continued to grow for over 25 years. Daniel’s sells a wide variety of chocolate treats in assorted packaging that includes boxes, bars, bags, tins and baskets. Recently, the company asked Red Rocket Creative Strategies to help create a nostalgic “cone” package reminiscent of the way candy shops and soda fountains used to sell batches of assorted candies. We loved the idea. Besides, who doesn’t want to work with chocolate?
Our key deliverables included concepts and designs for wrapping eight different types of chocolates as well as precise placement of branding, nutritional info and bar codes that would work consistently with Daniel’s hand-wrapping and sealing system. Consulting with Daniel’s staff, we developed a master brand design style with the flexibility to build product lines around particular themes, patterns, colour palettes and illustration styles. Armed with Daniel’s information and specs, we created sheets for eight different types of chocolates that included five different truffle flavours plus Passion Fruit, Sea Salt Caramel and Maple Syrup. The sheets provided easy product differentiation and economical, 4-colour printing.
The result was a tasty new line of packaging that combined old-fashioned quality with a bit of modern-day quirkiness. Sweet!
