The Red Rocket team listened well to our initial brief, applied their creative magic and designed an updated corporate identity that was completely right for us. We’re all really proud of the final product. As corporate rebrands go, it was a remarkably speedy and stress-free process!
Capstone Mining Corp. is a successful, Canadian-based company operating three copper mines in North America. With new projects in development and the company continuing to grow, management wanted to refresh Capstone’s logo. They came to Red Rocket Creative Strategies with a general direction for the new look, emphasizing a youthful and contemporary concept but wanting to retain some connection with the existing logo.
We first looked at incorporating a copper theme into the logo design. Copper ores offer rich hues of orange and turquoise that established a starting palette. Our next step was to refresh the large “C” element. Drawing inspiration from drill core maps, open-pit mines and layers of the earth, we developed two concentric circles that opened onto the Capstone name. An angled space interrupted the circles, representing an exploration drill and also creating a capstone shape at the top of the icon. We then applied hues of orange to the top of the C, while two shades of grey anchored the C into earth and rock.
A custom typeface was created to set the Capstone name. Red Rocket Creative then created a Graphic Standards Manual that provides clear direction on all variations of the logo and approved applications, along with a supporting colour palette.
