HITTING THE SLOPES IN THE NAME OF CHARITY – REALLY!

Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports (VASS) makes the mountain experience accessible to all by offering hands-on education programs designed to teach persons with a disability how to ski or snowboard. How cool is that?

Their flagship fundraising event is called the Challenge Cup where teams of three skiers/boarders are matched with a disabled athlete for a day of fun racing on Grouse Mountain. Red Rocket rebranded this year’s even— featuring a group of four retro-style illustrated skiers (and boarder).

This year’s event is on February 26 and Red Rocket has placed two teams into the competition. We encourage you to sponsor our teams – as your donation goes to a very worthwhile cause.

On April 2006, Italian Simone Origone reached a chilly speed of 251.4 km/h at Les Arcs, France which made him the world's fastest skier.

The highest recorded speed by a snowboarder is 201.9 km/h by Australia Darren Powell on 2 May 1999.

BC's Future Olympians – Rebranded

The British Columbia Alpine Ski Association (BC Alpine) is a highly visible sport organization with 38 ski clubs and more than 4,500 members located throughout the province. BC Alpine oversees the development of ski racing programs from “entry level” through to elite athlete development where BC’s best ski athletes compete for the attention of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team.

The Juvenile Alpine Race Series is now proudly sporting a hot (or should we say ‘a cool’) new look that will be in place for the next several years. The rebranding of this high profile, athletic development property touched on several aspects of the event experience–from the starting gates to the gold, silver and bronze medals.

Like all good creative the rebranding of this event started with a solid foundation. Red Rocket’s design team researched, conceptualized and illustrated the stylized downhill racer to be technically perfect. The addition of multi-coloured ribbons streaming in the wake of the skier’s downhill progress, add a sense motion and rhythm synonymous to alpine racers. From hot to cool, the progression of colours also adds a sense of depth to the visual.

Aspects of the illustration became the focal point that tied all the creative deliverables together. It was the graphic that was successfully die sublimated onto the lycra-type fabric of race bibs, not to mention the 20-foot highflying banners that the many athletes’ raced towards on their way to the finish line. Even the highly coveted medals followed the same progression of colour; from the cool blue applied to the bronze medal, to that of the fiery red of the gold medal.

The new look was applied consistently to several other aspects of the event rebranding including: sponsor signage, course flags, long-sleeve T’s, hoodies, the medals and lanyards, and full colour Vancouver Sun ads. The result is a truly memorable brand experience that raises the public profile of this province-wide event.

We worked very closely with the numerous suppliers to ensure the design concept was deliverable – and it was.

The BC Alpine Ski project is just one of a number of recent branding exercises Red Rocket has completed for sport related organizations. Others include the Vancouver Assisted Snow Sports (VASS) Challenge Cup and the BMO Vancouver Marathon.

We hope you stay tuned for further creative developments in our universe.
