The Brief
The BMO Vancouver Marathon is Canada’s largest marathon, and a major regional and international event. In 2009, event organizers asked Red Rocket to overhaul the event’s image, in a push to build awareness and increase participation.
The Solution
The redesigned event logo was the foundation of the makeover program, with its stylized runners in a shape reminiscent of the provincial dogwood flower, in four colours representing Vancouver’s multicultural population. Based on the logo’s design and colour scheme, and the new tagline “Experience the Energy,” we developed a full suite of campaign elements, from posters to brochures, to event maps, schedules, entry forms, through to street banners that flew from hundreds of light poles around Vancouver. Our redesigned website is colourful and user-friendly, but more importantly, it provides a quick, easy sign-up, helping the organizers steer participants to the website for faster, lower-cost registration. The cast-metal, epoxy-coated BMO Vancouver Marathon medals that we designed are now enduring mementoes of a very special event.
