5 reasons to choose Drupal as your CMS
At Red Rocket Creative Strategies we are building the majority of our websites using Drupal. In our experience we have found Drupal to be the most reliable and flexible system to build in.
Drupal is an Open Source Content Management System (CMS) and Framework written in the programming language PHP.
More and more large organizations and government websites are using Drupal, such as Whitehouse.gov, Economist.com, Louvre.fr (see a list here).
Today it is one of the best CMS, here are 5 reasons why we think you should use Drupal for your website
1- Lower Cost:
Drupal is an Open Source CMS, meaning that its code is free to use and accessible to anyone. In the long term it will save you money and time since you don’t have to start from scratch everytime you want to add or update your website as you would when using a custom CMS.
2- Security:
Drupal will keep your website safe. The Drupal community is constantly working on fixing security issues and has an organized process for investigating, verifying, and publishing possible security problems very quickly. Security updates are available on a regular basis allowing you to upgrade as soon as it becomes necessary.
3- Flexibility:
Drupal can be used for any type of website: blog, corporate, e-commerce, government... Drupal is flexible and works with any design allowing you to match your corporate brand perfectly.
The ‘Views’ system will display lists, tables of content or any other data in the specific layout the designer sets. You can layout your pages any way you like, there are no restrictions on where content must sit on the page, other than good user experience
You can also link content throughout a site without having to add it in multiple locations in the back end. For example on the KWL website we built related projects and contact information that automatically carried over to each project page.
4- Usability:
Drupal is the perfect tool for a company that wants to manage its own website. The latest version (Drupal 7) of the administration interface is user friendly. Once logged in, a menu allows you to navigate to your pages and edit the content as you want without the need of html knowledge. You can have multiple administrator rights, allowing you to track and control who edits content and ensure a smooth publication process.
5- The Community:
.
Drupal is maintained by a large community of developers who volunteer to share their knowledge.
They provide thousands of modules and support for everyone that uses the CMS. You can also contribute, when you find a solution to a problem or if you create a module that can be useful for other users.
Twice a year, the Drupal community meets for a big event called the DrupalCon: one in North America, one in Europe. The next one will take place in Munich in August.
Smaller events exist all around the world, all the time.
The Red Rocket web team attended the DrupalCon Denver in March 2012 and it was an amazing opportunity to meet other developers and partners to learn new ways to use Drupal.
